Playa del Carmen is located along the Caribbean Sean in the heart of the Riviera Maya between Cancun and Tulum. It is the perfect place to stay while you’re discovering the area and its many attractions. With an abundance of excellent tours and activities, ranging from exploring Mayan ruins to exhilarating ATV rides through the jungle, you are sure to find something for everyone to love.
You can cool off during a visit to a crystal clear, fresh water cenote (fresh water filled sinkholes and underwater caves). Also you could take a dive in the sea to explore the breathtaking coral reefs. Or you can enjoy snorkeling with beautiful sea turtles. It’s also nice to spend a day at one of the local eco parks where nature meets adventure.
Activities in Playa del Carmen
While Playa del Carmen’s location is excelent to enjoy the many activities the Riviera Maya offers, the town itself is a hot spot travel destination. On the main pedestrian street the Quinta Avenida, also called 5th Avenue, you will find all kinds of excellent restaurants, bars and shops.
Spend the day relaxing in one of the many beach clubs, paddle boarding the Caribbean sea or just sipping on a margarita by your pool. In the evening savor delicious meals in one of Playa del Carmen’s excellent restaurants and discover its vibrant nightlife.
Even if you are not planning to do any activities outside of Playa del Carmen you will have plenty of things to do!

Getting to Playa del Carmen
Most tourists arrive at Cancun Internation Airport, the principal gateway to the Riviera Maya. The easiest and most convenient way to get to Playa del Carmen form Cancun Airport is to book private transportation in advance. This will assure you that you get a reliable, safe and cost effective service.
Your private transportation will take you directly to your vacation rental or hotel. The car/van ride will be about 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic and your exact destination in Playa del Carmen.

The Climate
Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya area are known to be a year-round travel destination. The climate is considered to be subtropical. It is almost always sunny and longer periods of rain are only likely during the later summer months.
The temperatures fluctuate between 80°F (27°C) to 90°F (32°C) during the day throughout the year.
The hottest and more humid season is from June to September, with more thunderstorms and precipitation than during the rest of the year. From November to April the weather is usually the best, but this is also when Playa del Carmen is the busiest.

Activities in the Area
The list of activities in the Riviera Maya is endless. Among the most popular ones is definitely a visit to one of the many Mayan Ruins. For example Tulum with its iconic location overlooking the spectacular turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. In case you have more time a visit to Chichen Itza in Yucatan should be on your list.
If you are more interested in aquatic activities you should definitely visit a Cenote. They are natural formed sinkholes and caves filled with fresh water. Take a dip in the cool mystical waters among an unforgettable scenery. You can even practive your snorkeling skills or book a guided diving experience.

Among the many activities in the area a visit to an Eco & Adventure Park like Xcaret or Xelha are great for a day trip. Explore a variety of smaller Mayan ruins, cenote snorkeling and ziplining. Observe tropical birds and animals while walking through the jungle. A visit to one of those parks combines some of the many popular experiences of the area in one. Ideal if you have limited time.
